DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – For the second time in a week, West Indies left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican has made a significant leap in the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings and is now rated among the top 25 bowlers in the world.
The 32-year-old Warrican jumped 16 spots and is now ranked 25th following his match winning haul of nine for 70 in the recently concluded second Test against Pakistan in Multan, which the visitors won by 120 runs.
It helped him end the two-match series with 19 wickets, following his 10-wicket haul in the opening Test which Pakistan won by 127 runs.
It is Warrican’s highest-ever ranking and he is now the third highest ranked West Indian behind Kemar Roach (18th) and Jayden Seales, who is ranked 12th, after leapfrogging Alzarri Joseph (34th) and Jason Holder (36th).
Fellow spinner Gudakesh Motie also moved up in the rankings, jumping six spots to 58th after capturing five wickets in the second Test.
Shamar Joseph, who is ranked 54th, is the only other West Indian bowler in the top 100.
In the Test batting rankings, West Indies Test captain Kraigg Brathwaite leapt eight spots and is now ranked 44th to be the only West Indian in the top 50.
Brathwaite scored an impressive 52 in the second innings of the second Test to end a run of low scores and helped his side win their first Test in Pakistan in over 30 years.
