Samuel Williams and Or­lan­do Charles took the over­all award for best fight­ers in the Ju­nior Di­vi­sion when the Mixed Mar­tial Arts Cham­pi­onships, put on by the T&T Mixed Mar­tial Arts Fed­er­a­tion (TTM­MAF), were held a week ago.

The se­nior di­vi­sion had just one win­ner which went to Dean­na Du­jon of St Lu­cia.

The cham­pi­onships, held at the Mil­i­tary-Led Aca­d­e­m­ic Train­ing Pro­gramme (MI­LAT) in Mau­si­ca, saw Williams ex­tract an easy win over Azhar Mo­hammed in his con­test and Charles im­pres­sive­ly de­feat Dar­shan Dur­ga to be point­ed out for the top prizes.

Mean­while, the St Lu­cian made light work out of his coun­ter­part Alyssa Adams.

Af­ter­wards, the pres­i­dent of the TTM­MAF, Ja­son Fras­er, de­scribed the event as a re­sound­ing suc­cess, say­ing they were able to iden­ti­fy some young and up­com­ing tal­ent such as Emanuel Williams, Samuel Williams and Azhar Mo­hammed.

“The event was run with three tour­na­ment brack­ets for the youths, ju­niors and fe­males along with a few sin­gle match-ups. The event re­ceived an over­whelm­ing lev­el of sup­port from the gen­er­al pub­lic and the venue was filled to ca­pac­i­ty. We would like to thank MI­LAT, name­ly Mr An­tho­ny God­dard, the project man­ag­er, for shar­ing our vi­sion and com­ing on board. We al­so ex­tend thanks to Mrs. Gashelle Gilkes-Ed­wards, Na­tion­al Ser­vice Man­ag­er at the Min­istry of Youth De­vel­op­ment and Na­tion­al Ser­vice and to Mr Shabir Khan the Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor of Uni­ver­sal Am­bu­lance Lim­it­ed."

There were al­so no­table per­for­mances from the pair of Adam Stew­art and Shawn Walk­er who were in­volved in an ex­hi­bi­tion fight.
