Windies Women go down to Pakistan in final warm up

LA­HORE – West In­dies Women lost their fi­nal warm up match be­fore the Women’s World Cup Qual­i­fiers when they fell to Pak­istan by five wick­ets in Pak­istan on Mon­day.

Af­ter win­ning the toss and elect­ing to bat at the Gaddafi Sta­di­um, the vis­i­tors who were play­ing with­out sev­er­al key play­ers in­clud­ing cap­tain Hay­ley Matthews and She­maine Camp­belle, could on­ly muster 188 for eight from their 50 overs.

Shabi­ka Gajn­abi led the way for the West In­dies with an un­beat­en 68 from 77 balls, in­clu­sive of sev­en fours, and Jan­nil­lea Glas­gow scored 41 from 50 balls in an oth­er­wise dis­ap­point­ing bat­ting dis­play.

Left-arm spin­ners Sa­dia Iqbal and Nashra San­du took 3-21 and 2-47 re­spec­tive­ly.

Pak­istan then eas­i­ly chased down the tar­get, end­ing on 192 for five from 46.1 overs thanks to su­perb bat­ting per­for­mances from vice-cap­tain Munee­ba Ali and Na­talia Par­vaiz.

The duo an­chored the chase, with Munee­ba top-scor­ing with 87 runs off 113 balls, while Na­talia hit 53 from 60 de­liv­er­ies.

Gull Fer­oza al­so played a sup­port­ing role, scor­ing 28 cru­cial runs.

The vic­to­ry marked Pak­istan’s sec­ond con­sec­u­tive warm-up win, fol­low­ing a dom­i­nant sev­en-wick­et vic­to­ry over Thai­land.

The West In­dies Women play their first match in the World Cup Qual­i­fiers on Wednes­day when they take on Scot­land Women in the open­ing match.
