The Mani­ram Ma­haraj-trained Cham­pagne On Deck is my nap se­lec­tion to win to­day's fea­ture Stakes & Low­er Hand­i­cap, over 1,600 me­tres on the main track at San­ta Rosa Park, Ari­ma. The Ju­nior Sam­my-owned four-year-old colt is seek­ing a hat-trick of vic­to­ries to­day, when he goes to post for the fea­ture event. How­ev­er, Luis Ro­driguez is al­so booked to ride Funky Like Ah Train, the cham­pi­on turf horse of 2008 but with the race be­ing switched to the main course, Funky­LikeAh Train will take no part.

The Glenn Mendez-trained Wind­jam­mer could be the biggest dan­ger to Cham­pagne On Deck on the main course. Keis­han Bal­go­b­in will have the leg up on Wind­jam­mer and this one will make my se­lec­tion run but Cham­pagne On Deck should pre­vail for the Ma­haraj barn, which has been in good form over the past three weeks. Top three-year-old, Dring Brinks will have his warm-up for the Mid­sum­mer Clas­sic in the 1,350 Op­tion­al Claim­ing event, Race sev­en on the card. Dring Brinks should have lit­tle dif­fi­cul­ty in putting Lekh Raj, Re­gal Ho­n­our and Savvy in their places. Post time for the first event is 1.10 pm.
