At the 150th anniversary event reception, held in honour of the UK cadet force, on June 2, Captain Dr Wallace W Williams, International Liaison Officer of the Trinidad & Tobago Cadet Force (TTCF) met with Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh –significantly both wore the Royal Green Jackets tie on the day.
Williams was selected by the Ministry of Defence Publicity team to be one of the Cadet officers to meet with the Duke to highlight his former experience as an adult officer in the UK and his now dual role with the cadets in T&T and with the Cadet Vocational Qualifications for cadets in the Caribbean.
He is also the international liaison officer and Caribbean programme manager for the cadet vocational qualification UK. The CVQO qualification, in conjunction with British Technical Education Council (BTEC) leads to diplomas for cadets in public service, music and engineering based on the cadet syllabus. These Diplomas are accredited by Edxcel, the UK qualifying body for GCSE's, and are recognised for entry into universities in the UK, US and now UWI, T&T.
CVQO is pioneering with Williams the need for "Open Units" in the Caribbean for youths at risk. This is based on Williams' earlier research on the need for Open Units in T&T for youths at risk and his soon to be published book by CVQO–CVQO: Education for Caribbean Youths at Risk. The lunch reception for invitees only was held at the prestigious Guildhall in London.
