Works and Infrastructure Minister Jack Warner says if solutions are not found for residents of Clifton Street, Laventille, and environs, then "we in trouble." He said during a visit to the area last Friday with Port-of-Spain mayor Louis Lee Sing there were many young people who said they had not been employed since June. According to Warner they showed no signs of being employed by June next year. He said they asked for his help "and I told them, yes, I will see what I can do." He was the feature speaker at a luncheon, hosted by the Trinidad Union Club, at Nicholas Towers, Port-of-Spain, yesterday.

Warner added: "If we don't find a solution for Clifton Street and those areas quickly, we in trouble." He questioned what the last government did to improve the area. Warner said political affiliation was not the issue and until the problems in those areas could be fixed "we are all threatened, whether by day or by night." He said everybody in T&T had a problem and while there were laws, nothing was enforced.

"Everybody has a problem...1.3 million people and 1.3 million problems," he added.

Speaking on the apology by former prime minister Patrick Manning, Warner said it made no sense to him. He said every member of the last government should apologise to the nation. He said: "For eight years, these guys sat there and they did nothing." Warner said everyone who was faced with a problem wanted it fixed, "now." He said salary increases, landslips, roads, lights and water were all being demanded, "now." Warner said: "I ask you, where was all the noise over the last decade?"
