Homicide officers are investigating the second murder in Sangre Grande within two days.
Police said Dwight “Pat” Badal, 41, a Ministry of Health employee, was gunned down on Thursday night.
Badal, of Foster Road, Sangre Grande, worked at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.
Officers said Badal was playing basketball with friends at a nearby recreation ground, when he left and went to Express House Mini Mart to purchase a bottle of water. As he was about to enter the mini-mart, a man dressed only in his underwear, with a jersey covering his face, came out of a car and opened fire on him. Badal died on the spot.
Badal’s mother, Joanne Sylvester, said she lives three houses away from where her son was killed. She said when she heard he was shot, she ran to the scene to find him already dead.
On Carnival Tuesday night, national youth boxer Prince Charles, 18, was stabbed to death by a man in Sangre Grande during Last Lap celebrations.
The 57-year-old suspect was arrested.
