When the Forbes magazine published its richest self-made women under 40 in June a surprise name made the list.
Lucy Guo had not only made her debut on the list but she was ranked second only to Kylie Jenner.
Guo’s net worth is valued at US$440 million.
“Guo debuts thanks to a nearly six per cent stake in artificial intelligence startup Scale AI, which was valued by private investors at US$7.3 billion in 2021.
“She studied computer science at Carnegie Mellon but dropped out to become a Thiel Fellow; while working at question-and-answer website Quora, she met Alexandr Wang, with whom she cofounded Scale AI,” Forbes stated.
“The pair made the Forbes Under 30 list in 2018, the same year Guo left the company. She cofounded early stage venture capital firm Backend Capital in 2019 and in April this year launched Moment, which she describes as a ‘web3 platform for creators to scale their content’,” it stated.
And as TechBeach Retreat makes its valiant return after a near three-year abscence, Guo will be there, co-founder Kyle Maloney told Guardian Media.
“This is a testament to the kinds of people that we attract to our brand and from there we have a ton of amazing people within the technology space, ibestors, people representing global brands, people coming from companies like Meta, Instagram, Youtube, Microsoft, Amazon so a lot of the blue chip technology brands are represented, coming in for the event as well, Maloney said.
The Tech Beach Retreat takes place December 8-10, 2022 at Iberostar Resort in Rose Hall, St James.
The retreat is expected to receive representation from 15 countries across rthe region including a large contingent from T&T, Maloney said.
“What you can look forward to is this fusion of high quality content. We are talking about topics that are trending in the region, so digital transformation, the future of work, hybrid, on premises or fully remote led by experts in the industry,” he said.
Maloney said there will be practical workshops including a segment for content creators.
“Success for us is always the relationships that are built and the deals that are closed.
“What we create is an environment that allows people to connect with the removal of a hierarchy and that is why we are in an all inclusive resort on the beach in Jamaica so that when people get into that environment they are connecting over their passions versus over their positions,” Maloney said.
Maloney said attendees are encouraged to dress their brands at the event.
The return of the conference to Jamaica follows the organisation’s first in-person staging in the United States at the Confidante Miami Beach in Florida last month.
“We’ve built an active community with Tech Beach Retreat, providing a nexus for the global tech ecosystem to connect the best companies and minds in the world with undiscovered talent and opportunities, for a more inclusive future.
“We are built on an inclusive framework which has made our community one of the most diverse of any platform you will find, anywhere.
“Our home base in the Caribbean forced us to reach well beyond our existing ecosystem to connect people of varying backgrounds through purpose and passion. The end result? Some of the most brilliant minds in the world consider the TechBeach Community as their family,” TechBeach states.
“Our multi-medium platform bridges people and organisations positioning to evolve through technology with the roadmap, resources and skills to help them excel.
“We’re focused on building bridges that yield increased investment, partnership and mentorship spurring an entrepreneurship and innovation revolution. We’re merging the assets of some of the world’s foremost people and organisations with the unrealized full potential of people and organisations poised for success,” it stated.
Maloney said TechBeach’s goal is to unlock the full economic potential of the region through identifying industries ripe for profitable disruption and empowering with the fuel to scale.
Apart from Guo, the TechBeach Retreat’s lineup of speakers reads like a who’s who in global tech.
It includes Nick Caldwell the general manager of Twitter, Marcus Dantus of Shark Tank Mexico, Julie Wenah the Associate General Counsel of Civil IRgth at Facebook and Jared Jordan the director of engineering at YouTube.
