Why are so many vaccinated people getting COVID-19 lately?

(AP) — Why are so many vac­ci­nat­ed peo­ple get­ting COVID-19 late­ly?  A cou­ple of fac­tors are at play, start­ing with the emer­gence of the high­ly con­ta­gious omi­cron vari­ant. Omi­cron is more like­ly to in­fect peo­ple, even if it doesn’t make them very sick, and its surge co­in­cid­ed with the hol­i­day trav­el sea­son in many places.

Twen­ty-two more peo­ple have lost their lives to COVID-19, bring­ing the na­tion­al death toll per­ilous­ly close to 3,000.  The lat­est up­date from the Min­istry of Health re­ports that the na­tion­al toll now stands at 2,936 lives lost.

WASH­ING­TON (AP) — As the COVID-19 omi­cron vari­ant surges across the Unit­ed States, top fed­er­al health of­fi­cials are look­ing to add a neg­a­tive test along with its five-day iso­la­tion re­stric­tions for asymp­to­matic Amer­i­cans who catch the coro­n­avirus, the White House’s top med­ical ad­vis­er said Sun­day.
