Contact sports have been put back on the bench as the government rolled back on its reopening on Saturday because of the rising cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic across T&T. The cases have been on the rise for the last three weeks. Sepeaking at a Ministry of Health news conference held at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann's, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley said the restriction will take effect from 6 am on Monday, August 17.

All local cricket players and officials will get to vote on Monday, day of the T&T General Elections before they enter into the bio-secure Bubble which is being based at the Hilton Hotel, Lady Young Road, for the upcoming Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) tournament. The players and officials were awaiting directions about when they would have to check-in and they got the information today from the CPL.

The three players removed from the Hero CPL T20 tournament because of COVID-19 issues did not leave Jamaica and as such was not in contact with the contingent that flew into Trinidad and Tobago on Monday night and was taken to their Bubble based at Hilton Trinidad under Police escort.
