A 16-year-old boy from Arima was shot and killed by his teen cousin while they were playing with an illegal firearm on Friday.
According to reports, around 3:45 pm, Jeremiah Outram, of La Horquetta, was at his cousin's home with teenage relatives when they found the gun in a clothing basket.
Outram, his 15-year-old female relative and her brother began playing with the firearm.
The gun reportedly accidentally discharged while the teen was holding it and Outram was shot in his head.
The girl contacted the police and Outram was taken to the Sangre Grande Hospital where he underwent emergency treatment. He succumbed to his injury around 6 pm.
The girl and an adult relative, who was at home at the time, were detained by homicide detectives, who seized the firearm and processed the bedroom crime scene.
Investigations are continuing.
