Nigerian artist Burna Boy heated up the stage and audience at Plymouth Recreation Ground, Tobago, on Thursday, despite torrential rainfall during his entire performance at the Tobago Music, Arts and Culture Festival (TOMAC).
The 27-year-old multi-Grammy Award winner came on stage around 1.30 am as the headline act and gave the patrons what they wanted despite the heavy showers.
Earlier, patrons started trickling in around 6 pm in a bid to get good spots in front of the stage and even get a rare parking spot in the nearby community. Fortunately, many were prepared with their umbrellas following an Orange-level weather alert issued by the Meteorological Office.
Patrons had a good time dancing to music provided by a disc jockey until 9.30, when a band started the show going.
Dressed in an orange shirt, Tobago’s veteran soca star Shurwayne Winchester leapt on stage and dished out a few of his hits for the excited patrons.
Nailah Blackman followed shortly after, dressed in a transparent outfit and the shortest of shorts. She dazzled patrons not only with her talented voice but her amazing physique.
Following Blackman’s performance, the rains started pouring, thunder cracked and lightning lit up the sky. However, the crowd started chanting for Burna Boy, “Burna, Burna, Burna.”
They were then given the ecstatic news that the star of the evening would be on stage soon.
Instruments and equipment were moved around in the drizzle to make way for Burna Boy.
However, the deluge continued and the patrons endured with music from DJ Lambo. When the downpours started to drench all the ladies who had spent hours getting ready for the event, they chanting once again for Burna.
Not letting the weather disappoint his fans, Burna Boy came on stage in a rain suit and overflowed his vibrance and talent into the crowd, who later left drenched but satisfied. Rain or no rain, it was not a show or experience to be missed.
