The Chaguanas Borough Corporation (CBC) is leading the way when it comes to infrastructural works, says Mayor Faaiq Mohammed.
He was at the time addressing the CBC’s annual awards function at the corporation at Cumberbatch Street, Chaguanas, on Tuesday.
Mohammed said 53 roads had been paved, along with an equal number of box drains, and the market and several recreation grounds had been upgraded.
“We are the overachievers in Local Government. We are extra, not basic,” he said.
He said UNC and PNM councillors strived to deliver to the burgesses.
“Together, we create better communities,” he said.
Mohammed said culvert crossings at Chaguanas had been repaired and the flooding along the Main Road had been stopped.
“It was like a Christmas miracle that came early,” he declared.
He said the corporation was also committed to making the Chaguanas Market safer. He said in 2025, the corporation will re-open the abattoir after years of closure.
On the night, 71 organisations and individuals in the areas of business, politics, community service, culture and the arts, sports and education were awarded. The awardees, the mayor said, had shown their commitment to local and national development.
