A 29-year-old man from Diego Mar­tin has been de­tained for ques­tion­ing in con­nec­tion with the pos­ses­sion of 13 blue and gold macaws and one yel­low-foot­ed tor­toise on Sun­day.

The ar­rest came dur­ing an in­tel­li­gence-led an­ti-crime ex­er­cise con­duct­ed in the South­ern Di­vi­sion be­tween 4 pm and 9 pm on Sun­day, which was co­or­di­nat­ed by Snr Supt Win­ches­ter, Asp Jaikaran and In­sp Phillip.

It was di­rect­ly su­per­vised by Sgt Joseph, Sgt Prescott, Ag/Cpl Charles and Ag/Cpl Bhag­wan­deen and in­clud­ed per­son­nel of the South­ern Di­vi­son’s Task Force.

Po­lice said search war­rants for firearms and am­mu­ni­tion were ex­e­cut­ed at sev­er­al lo­ca­tions in the Moru­ga po­lice dis­trict.

The man, a ma­rine en­gi­neer of Gookool Street, Diego Mar­tin, was charged by PC Boodram with pos­ses­sion of pro­tect­ed an­i­mals. (RDR)
