Guardian Media’s weather anchor Kalain Hosein walked away with five awards at the Caribbean Broadcasting Union’s 2022 Caribbean Media Awards in Antigua and Barbuda yesterday.
Lead Newsgathering Editor and CNC3 news anchor Ryan Bachoo also copped an award at the ceremony.
Kalain, who is mostly known for his presentation of the weather forecast during the CNC3 7 pm newscast, was awarded for his news reports on the print, television and digital platforms.
He won the award for Best Climate Change News Items in both the print and digital categories; Best Coverage of the COVID-19 Pandemic in the print category; Best Climate Change Documentary in the television category; and Best Coverage of Disaster Risk Reduction in the digital category.
Bachoo won the Best Documentary Programme in the television category.
The CBU’s awards are held annually to celebrate the best of content created by media houses in the Dutch, English, French and Spanish Caribbean.
Originally, the Caribbean Broadcasting Awards was open only to radio and television content before it was broadened to become the Caribbean Media Awards to reflect the expansion of the CBU’s membership to include digital and print content creators.
Journalists, media practitioners and content creators were invited to submit pieces from various platforms between January 1 and December 31, 2022, with April 2023 being the deadline for submission.
