In Com­mem­o­ra­tion of the up­com­ing 60th an­niver­sary of the es­tab­lish­ment of diplo­mat­ic re­la­tions be­tween Trinidad and To­ba­go and Japan, Mr Ue­su­gi Ken­taro met with Dr Amery Browne to dis­cuss the strength­en­ing of bi­lat­er­al re­la­tions be­tween the two coun­tries, as well as the es­tab­lish­ment of a Joint Task Force in the com­ing years.

On June 17, Mr. Ue­su­gi Ken­taro, Par­lia­men­tary Vice-Min­is­ter for For­eign Af­fairs of Japan, vis­it­ed the Re­pub­lic of Trinidad and To­ba­go and met with Sen­a­tor the Ho­n­ourable Dr. Amery Browne, Min­is­ter of For­eign and CARI­COM Af­fairs of the Re­pub­lic of Trinidad and To­ba­go.

Min­is­ter Browne and Par­lia­men­tary Vice-Min­is­ter Ue­su­gi wel­comed the 60th an­niver­sary of the es­tab­lish­ment of diplo­mat­ic re­la­tions be­tween Japan and Trinidad and To­ba­go in 2024.

Not­ing that the two coun­tries share ba­sic val­ues such as free­dom and democ­ra­cy, and have de­vel­oped re­la­tions in var­i­ous fields since the es­tab­lish­ment of diplo­mat­ic re­la­tions in 1964, they ex­pressed their com­mit­ment to fur­ther ex­pand and strength­en bi­lat­er­al re­la­tions.

Min­is­ter Browne and Par­lia­men­tary Vice-Min­is­ter UE­SU­GI af­firmed that the Min­istry of For­eign and CARI­COM Af­fairs of the Re­pub­lic of Trinidad and To­ba­go and the Em­bassy of Japan in Trinidad and To­ba­go and would soon es­tab­lish a joint task force to plan and im­ple­ment mea­sures to ex­pand and strength­en the bi­lat­er­al re­la­tions on the oc­ca­sion of the 60th an­niver­sary of the es­tab­lish­ment of diplo­mat­ic re­la­tions in 2024 and be­yond.

The Joint Task Force will en­gage in ex­ten­sive dis­cus­sions to ex­pand and deep­en the ex­changes and friend­ship ties be­tween the two coun­tries in a wide range of ar­eas, in­clud­ing ed­u­ca­tion­al, cul­tur­al and aca­d­e­m­ic ex­changes, eco­nom­ic co­op­er­a­tion, tourism pro­mo­tion, and sports ex­changes.
