Prime Min­is­ter Dr Kei­th Row­ley has an­nounced Kei­th Scot­land SC has been ap­point­ed a min­is­ter in the Min­istry of Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty with a spe­cif­ic fo­cus on the T&T Po­lice Ser­vice, man­age­ment of il­le­gal im­mi­grants, drug en­force­ment, and oth­er el­e­ments.

Speak­ing at the post-cab­i­net me­dia brief­ing on Thurs­day, Dr Row­ley said he has con­clud­ed that an ad­di­tion­al cab­i­net re­source is need­ed in the fight against crime.

The Prime Min­is­ter said Scot­land will fo­cus on polic­ing is­sues, po­lice re­sponse is­sues, and po­lice prob­lem is­sues. He said, “I can tell you, there are a lot of prob­lems in the Po­lice Ser­vice, not least, some of the more ef­fec­tive po­lice of­fi­cers have ac­cu­mu­lat­ed sig­nif­i­cant leave and of course have been of­fered leave.

Some of them, we lit­er­al­ly have to con­sid­er bring­ing them back from leave be­cause of spe­cif­ic is­sues with­in the Po­lice Ser­vice which re­quire their ex­per­tise, their know-how and their very pres­ence.”
