A shoot­ing in Cau­ra last night end­ed in the death of a 41-year-old man and the wound­ing of a nine-year-old girl.

Po­lice said Carl­ton Elias re­cent­ly re­turned to his Tum­ba­sound Road home with rel­a­tives around 11:30 PM when he was con­front­ed by two gun­men in cam­ou­flage cloth­ing who shot him sev­er­al times.

The girl was wound­ed in her left fore­arm.

Rel­a­tives at the home heard the gun­shots and on check­ing, saw Elias' body.

The wound­ed girl was tak­en to hos­pi­tal where she re­mains ward­ed.

Tu­na­puna po­lice were called in with a dis­trict med­ical of­fi­cer who de­clared Elias dead.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors found a shot­gun car­tridge and a cut­lass at the scene.

Po­lice said Elias was known to plant mar­i­jua­na in the area.

Of­fi­cers of the Homi­cide Bu­reau of In­ves­ti­ga­tions Re­gion II are con­tin­u­ing en­quiries.
