While the M.V. Cabo Star is undergoing its statutory drydocking during the period April 6–25, the M.V. Emprendedora will be taking up duty as a cargo vessel on the seabridge between Trinidad and Tobago, and is now active as of today, Thursday, April 11, 2024.
An advisory from the Trinidad and Tobago Inter-island Transportation Co. Ltd. (TTIT) reports that the cargo vessel arrived yesterday and began operations today at 2 pm.
TTIT says the M.V. Emprendedora will operate exclusively as a cargo vessel.
“This vessel will be taking cargoes—building/construction material, trucks, vans, trucks/trailers, containers and other cargoes—to and from Tobago,” TTIT says. “The vessel will take cargo only. Passengers will be accommodated on the passenger ferries.”
According to the TTIT advisory, the M.V. Emprendedora will sail from Port of Spain at 2 pm, and and about 4.00am the following day from Tobago, based on the length of the crossing and the loading/off-loading process. TTIT says Port Users, Truckers, and Shippers utilising the service must purchase their travel ticket via the FRX system for the M.V. Cabo Star on the day of the sailing.
With regard to loading operations, TTIT notes that the M.V Emprendedora will be loaded with all categories of cargoes.
“The process for access to the vessel will remain as is—similar to the M.V. Cabo Star,” the company explained. “Truckers/Users will be processed at the GSS Terminals and await instructions on the Eastern Side of the Terminal (Port-of-Spain) or in the vehicle yard (Scarborough), prior to going to the Vessel.”
Meanwhile, the Galleons Passage will be available for the transport of vans and trucks on Monday (April 15), from Port-of-Spain at 9:00 am and from Scarborough at 2:00 pm.
The TTIT says the passenger ferries—the A.P.T. James and the Buccoo Reef—will continue to transport vehicles up to 7,000 kilogrammes, but priority will be given for the transport of food items and pharmaceuticals. It also notes that the regular sailing schedule will apply for the passenger ferries.
