Matura police confirm German tourist Tilo Kruse, 20, did make a report about his attack yesterday.
He also declined to seek medical attention after he was assaulted and robbed while walking from Toco to Matura on Wednesday evening.
Police say around 2:40pm Kruse was proceeding south along the main road near Matura when in the vicinity of 7mm he observed two men alighted from a bushy area and approached him .
One of the suspects was described as a tall man of African descent with curly hair wearing a red jersey. The second was said to be of African descent with a corn row hair style wearing a white jersey.
Police say according to his report the men attempted to grab his cellphone a struggle ensued during which the cellphone fell to the ground.
The victim picked up his mobile phone and began to run in a northerly direction and observed the suspects running off into the bushes.
Kruse stopped a passing vehicle and was taken to the Matura Police Station where he made a report.
PCs Mootilal and Francis visited the scene, made observations and carried out a search for the suspects However they say no useful information was obtained.
There is no CCTV surveillance system in the area.
Kruse has been walking to highlight the fact there are more good people in the country than bad. He has been relying solely on the kindness of strangers to give him food, money and a place to spend the night.
“I still continue my journey. I still believe most people in Trinidad are good. There definitely are some criminals out there and I don’t want those criminals to ruin the reputation of good Trinidadians,” Kruse said in his TikTok video where he recounted the incident.
Sgt Hazel of the Matura Police Station told Guardian Media officers have offered to give Kruse police protection but he declined.
