One day after a New York retiree was robbed in downtown Port-of-Spain, officers of the Port-of-Spain City Police found and arrested one of the bandits involved.
Police said the man who was visiting Trinidad for Carnival was standing near New City Mall on Monday around 12.05 pm when he was confronted by two men who stole his gold chain and pendant and tried to take his gold band before running away.
A report was made and investigators viewed footage of the incident and recognised one of the men who they described as a "known chain snatcher."
On Tuesday a team of police led by Sgt Joseph and PC Lewis were on patrol when they found the 21-year-old man and arrested him.
He was charged with robbery after being placed on an identification parade on Wednesday and identified as the bandit.
In an unrelated incident, a bandit stole a woman's cellphone as she sat in a car which was stuck in traffic on Wednesday morning.
Police said the woman was on her way to work in the front passenger side seat with the window down on Queen Street when a man walked up to the car and snatched her cellphone before running away.
A report was made and officers of the Port-of-Spain City Police led by Sgt Dwayne John with assistance from PC Bhagwandeen co-ordinated several searches before eventually finding the Samsung cellphone in downtown Port-of-Spain.
No one was arrested in relation to the robbery.
