Two men will ap­pear at the Port of Spain Mag­is­trates’ Court to­day, af­ter they were charged with rob­bery with vi­o­lence.

Den­zil Wal­cott of Dun­can Street, Port of Spain and Justin Cu­pid of Jack­son Hill, East Dry Riv­er, Port of Spain, were ar­rest­ed and charged af­ter WPC Fletch­er un­der the su­per­vi­sion of In­sp Ish­mael, Sgt Ram­lo­gan and A/Cpl Ho­sein con­tin­ued en­quires in­to a rob­bery in­ci­dent, which oc­curred on Au­gust 26 at New City Mall, Port of Spain.

Two oth­er sus­pects were ar­rest­ed yes­ter­day dur­ing an Op­er­a­tion Blue Line ex­er­cise which was con­duct­ed by the Port of Spain Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment (CID) Op­er­a­tions team un­der the su­per­vi­sion of Snr Supt Ramkhelawan, Supt Pa­ri­man, and co­or­di­nat­ed by Cpl Ram­baran, Cpl Kennedy, PC Jawahir, PC Brown, PC O ‘Gar­ro, and PC Dover.

Dur­ing the ex­er­cise, the men­tioned of­fi­cers pro­ceed­ed to Dun­can Street ‘Plan­nings’, where two male per­sons were ar­rest­ed in re­la­tion to the said re­port of rob­bery at New City Mall.

An­oth­er sus­pect who was shot and wound­ed by Port of Spain Mu­nic­i­pal Po­lice of­fi­cers af­ter he at­tacked them with a cut­lass, re­mains ward­ed at the Port of Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, around 10:30 am on the said day, a pro­pri­etor of a store lo­cat­ed at New City Mall, Port of Spain was at the mall, when five men ap­proached him and grabbed his chain from his neck.

A strug­gle en­sued; how­ev­er, the as­sailants were able to es­cape. While pur­su­ing the five men, the busi­ness­man ob­served his em­ploy­ee run­ning to­wards him. As he ap­proached his oth­er store booth, he ob­served ap­prox­i­mate­ly 20 men re­mov­ing items from his store and plac­ing them in black garbage bags.

Up­on see­ing this, he closed the door and locked it with the said men in­side and sought as­sis­tance from the mall se­cu­ri­ty. The men then be­gan kick­ing the door which shat­tered, caus­ing the busi­ness own­er to be cut about his body.

The as­sailants es­caped by run­ning in dif­fer­ent di­rec­tions. When the busi­ness­man re­turned to his busi­ness place, he ob­served two black garbage bags filled with items from his store, name­ly cloth­ing, shoes and hats.
