Two prisoners, several prison officers test positive for COVID-19

Pris­ons Com­n­mis­sion­er (Ag) Den­nis Pul­chan says a Covid Com­mand Cen­tre has been es­tab­lished at Gold­en Grove to gath­er and process all in­for­ma­tion re­quired to aid in de­ci­sion mak­ing, in an ef­fort to ef­fec­tive­ly man­age the con­tain­ment of COVID-19 with­in the walls of the na­tion's pris­ons.

Pul­chan said dai­ly re­ports from every sta­tion are manda­to­ry and are to pro­vide in­for­ma­tion in­clu­sive of, but not lim­it­ed to, staff at­ten­dance and sta­tus, en­hanced pris­on­er ob­ser­va­tion, san­i­ti­za­tion meth­ods and fre­quen­cies.

Pul­chan who heads the Cen­tre, ex­plained that sit­u­a­tion­al aware­ness dur­ing this time is detri­men­tal to how re­spons­es are co­or­di­nat­ed. As such, out­lets of com­mu­ni­ca­tion were es­tab­lished specif­i­cal­ly for the pur­pose of re­lat­ing of COVID-19 sit­u­a­tions.

Com­mis­sion­er Pul­chan added that all charges are con­stant­ly mon­i­tored for any signs and symp­toms and test­ing have been per­formed on those dis­play­ing any signs and symp­toms. To date, on­ly two pris­on­ers have test­ed pos­i­tive and all the nec­es­sary pro­to­cols have been ob­served.

He ad­vised that en­hanced mea­sures were im­ple­ment­ed to min­i­mize the spread of the virus.

Pul­chan said since the in­tro­duc­tion of com­mu­ni­ty spread, mem­bers of staff have been ad­vised against re­port­ing for du­ty and to seek med­ical at­ten­tion if feel­ing un­well.

In­evitably, he said, some of­fi­cers have re­turned pos­i­tive re­sults while a num­ber of them are un­der quar­an­tine.

The Pris­ons Com­mis­sion­er has re­mind­ed mem­bers of the pub­lic that the com­mis­sary re­mains func­tion­al for pur­chas­es and vir­tu­al vis­its con­tin­ue.

As­sault weapons cache found, 2 ar­rest­ed

Po­lice re­cov­ered sev­er­al high pow­ered as­sault ri­fles and am­mu­ni­tion in the Tacarigua dis­trict and ar­rest­ed two peo­ple in con­nec­tion with the find­ings.
Ac­cord­ing to a po­lice re­port, be­tween the hours of 3:30 am and 5 am on Mon­day an ex­er­cise was con­duct­ed in the Tacarigua area by mem­bers of the North East­ern Di­vi­sion­al Task Force (NEDTF) spear­head­ed by Snr Supt Phillip, Supt May­nard-Wil­son, Supt Alexan­der, In­sp Ram­s­ingh and Sgt Mar­tin. Al­so, su­per­vised by Cpl Daniel and Cpl Dun­can. 
Dur­ing the said ex­er­cise a search war­rant for Firearm and Am­mu­ni­tion was ex­e­cut­ed at Teak Street, Tacarigua, dur­ing the search po­lice found two 5.56 cal­i­bre as­sault ri­fles, one .22 MP5 and a to­tal of 143  5.56 am­mu­ni­tion, 59 .22 am­mu­ni­tion, 63 40 cal­i­bre am­mu­ni­tion and 44 9mm am­mu­ni­tion. 
Two peo­ple were ar­rest­ed rel­a­tive to the find­ings. 
PC Tay­lor of the NEDTF is con­tin­u­ing en­quiries.

Cara­pichaima man pleads not guilty to breach­ing pro­tec­tion or­der

A Cara­pichaima man has been grant­ed bail af­ter plead­ing not guilty to breach­ing a pro­tec­tion or­der.

40 year old Ken­rick Ricky Nathaniel of Wa­ter­loo Road, Cara­pichaima, ap­peared be­fore a Port of Spain Mag­is­trate on Fri­day where he was grant­ed bail with re­stric­tions.

The man must make arrange­ments through his at­tor­ney to re­move his per­son­sl items, which he must do in the pres­ence of the Po­lice.

He must al­so re­port to the Po­lice twivce a week and re­main 200 me­tres away from the vic­tim at all time.

The mat­ter was ad­journed to Sep­tem­ber 18th 2020.

To­ba­go man pleads not guilty

A To­ba­go man who al­leged­ly as­sault­ed a woman and in the process ex­posed a mi­nor to dan­ger, plead­ed not guiul­ty to the charge and has been grant­ed bail with con­di­tions.

49 year old Sean Man­swell, a labour­er of Cas­tara ap­peared be­fore Mag­is­trate Jo-Anne Con­nor at the Scar­bor­ough Mag­is­trates First Court and was grant­ed bail in the sum of $45,000 with a sure­ty.

The vic­tim re­port­ed to the po­lice that on Au­gust 16th she was at her Cas­tara home when she got in­to a heat­ed ar­gu­ment with the ac­cused.

Dur­ing the ar­gu­ment he al­leged­ly dealt her sev­er­al blows about the body in the pres­ence of a mi­nor.

The de­fen­dant was al­so or­dered to va­cate the home which he shares with both vic­tims and on­ly re­turn for cloth­ing and toi­letries with po­lice present. He must not come with­in 100 me­tres of the woman or the mi­nor.

He will al­so have to re­port to the Mo­ria po­lice sta­tion each and every Sat­ur­day be­fore 6pm,

The mat­ter was ad­journed to Sep­tem­ber 16th 2020.
