A Belmont pensioner who walked out of the Port-of-Spain General Hospital (POSGH) during the early hours of Wednesday morning, died minutes after leaving the facility.
Caroline Haynes, 60, of Gonzales Road, Belmont, was found lying along Piccadilly Street, in the vicinity of the bridge around 2:30 am today (January 25).
Residents in the area alerted officers at the Duncan Street Police Post to the woman’s presence.
Officers rushed the woman to the Port of Spain hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Medical personnel said Haynes had arrived at the POSGH some time before, complaining of feeling unwell, but left after insisting that she wanted to go to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope.
Investigators believe Haynes collapsed while walking down Piccadilly Street.
Her body bore no marks of violence.
Enquiries are continuing.
