Former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has bashed Dave Cameron’s previous Cricket West Indies regime for retarding the growth of ther regional team and preventing it from making the kind of progress it should have made in the last five years.
His comment came yesterday as he congratulated newly-appointed Windies skipper and friend Kieron Pollard, coach Phil Simmons and the team on their 47-run victory over Afghanistan in India, which helped them earn their first series win in the ODI format since 2014 when they whipped Bangladesh 3-0 in the Caribbean.
Sharing in the joyous moment, Bravo said: “Congratulations to the team. It has been five years since we have not won an ODI series and the boys have now done this. I am a former West Indies cricketer but I may soon come out of international retirement.”
Bravo, who is recovering from a finger surgery that kept him out of the entire 2019 Hero CPL, said he was happy with the win. He warned the fans not to get too excited but advised them to stay tuned as better days are ahead.
“Let me tell you all that you can’t think that West Indies cricket is now back to where we want it to be. What we have here are the right people in the right places and we are pointing in the right direction.”
While the video was obviously a celebratory one meant to laud the current team’s effort, Bravo could not resist taking a jab at the previous regime, which was led by Cameron.
“West Indies cricket has suffered at the hands of vindictive people who were bent on keeping certain people away from the team, ending many careers. However, there is a God and every rope has an end.
“The longest rope in the world has an end and it is good to see,” Bravo said.
“These are the same players but what you have different now is that there is a change at the very top and this has caused a lot of positives.
“The negativity that surrounded West Indies cricket is no longer there and we are looking forward to taking West Indies cricket back to the top. Again, congratulations to the team and keep going from strength to strength.”
Although he did not call any names directly, Bravo said, “The vindictiveness, the jealousy, the bad mind and the attitude that I am the boss. You all know who I am talking about.
“Have a clean heart, a clean mind, be respectful and have the right attitude for the people of the Caribbean. Mr Pollard, Jason Holder and coach Phil Simmons have the perfect opportunity to turn West Indies cricket around for the West Indies people who have been suffering over the last couple of years.
“The last five years were the worst for West Indies cricket and just a few people with egos and bad intentions trying their best disrupt the players.”
Cameron was replaced by Ricky Skerritt in March of this year after the CWI executive voted 8-4 in a secret ballot to replace the then incumbent Cameron.
