Firefighter Muhammad gets military send off

Fire­fight­er #3618 Jamiy­la Atiya Mucham­mad was giv­en a full mil­i­tary send off yes­ter­day fol­low­ing a church ser­vice at the St Fran­cis of As­sisi Church in Bel­mont on Fri­day. Fa­ther Thomas Law­son of­fi­ci­at­ed at the ser­vice.

She was laid to rest at the Tu­na­puna Pub­lic Ceme­tery. A 14-year vet­er­an of the T&T Fire Ser­vice, fire­fight­er Muham­mad, who passed away on Mon­day af­ter a bat­tle with can­cer, was a serv­ing Mem­ber of the Cen­tral Ex­ec­u­tive Com­mit­tee of the as­so­ci­a­tion rep­re­sent­ing the Mor­vant Fire Sta­tion for sev­er­al years with the or­gan­i­sa­tion’s Sec­ond Di­vi­sion.

Lead­ing the cel­e­bra­tions of Muham­mad’s life was Chief Fire Of­fi­cer (CFO) Arnold Bris­to and his men who wore full Fire­fight­er dress uni­form (Tu­nic) to­geth­er, with act­ing Di­vi­sion­al Fire Of­fi­cer Ro­han Singh.

Muham­mad’s daugh­ter, Atiyyah George, gave the eu­lo­gy which was fol­lowed by trib­utes by Sharon O’Brien, who rep­re­sent­ed both the Trinidad and To­ba­go Foot­ball As­so­ci­a­tion and the T&T Women’s League of Foot­ball (WoLF).

Oth­er trib­utes came from her net­ball team Chips, her bas­ket­ball club Bri­an Chase Acad­e­my and the Fire Ser­vices Sec­ond Di­vi­sion pres­i­dent Leo Ramkissoon.

Muham­mad, 38, was at­tached to the Mor­vant Fire Sta­tion. She was al­so a for­mer play­er of both net­ball and bas­ket­ball, and served as the gen­er­al sec­re­tary of WolF up the the time of her pass­ing and ser­viced as a TTFA board mem­ber. She is a for­mer Trinidad and To­ba­go Women’s Na­tion­al Un­der-20 Team man­ag­er in 2015.
