Trinidad and Tobago’s team produced 10 medals on Day 2 of the 2025 CARIFTA Games with a powerful showing with three gold, two silver, and five bronze medals at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo on Sunday night.
The gold medallist were Christopher Sammy (3000m under 17), Omari Brown (Octatholon under 17), Tyrique Vincent (Decathlon under 20)
Gianna Paul (Long Jump under 20)
At the heart of the day’s success was Tyrique Vincent, who etched his name into the history books by winning gold in the first staging of the Boys Under-20 decathlon event, where he finished with a total of 6522 points. His closest rival, Jurel Clement of Grenada, secured the silver medal with 6510, and Mattias Serin of Guadeloupe with the bronze behind 6249.
Vincent’s victory was a symbol of resilience and versatility, a two-day grind that tested his strength, speed, and endurance across 10 events – long jump, 100 metres, high jump, 400 metres, 110 hurdles, pole vault, javelin throw, 1500 metres and discus throw.
Shot put. It was a defining moment not just for him but for Team TTO, as the multi-event stood tall among the region’s best.
The medal count for the day began with a solid performance from Durlaina Rouse in the under-17 girls’ 400m hurdles, who clocked 1:03.48 to capture silver, narrowly edged out by Syrmiah Crawley of The Bahamas (1:02.85). Jamaica’s Alyssa Carty took bronze in 1:03.62.
Just minutes later, Jenna-Marie Thomas made her mark in the under-20 girls’ 400m hurdles, securing a bronze medal in 59.60 seconds. She finished behind Michelle Smith of the US Virgin Islands (56.60) and Shevaughn Thomas of Jamaica (58.60). Unfortunately, teammate Natalia Eastman did not start in the same event.
Team TTO asserted dominance in the distance events with a 1-2 finish in the under-17 boys’ 3000m. Christopher Sammy claimed gold in 9:13.35, followed by teammate Armani Dillion, who clocked 9:19.20 to take silver. Bermuda’s Cameron Adkins settled for bronze (9:20.00).
O’Shea Cummings, the 1500m gold medallist from Day 1, returned to the podium in the open girls’ 3000m, this time collecting bronze with a time of 10:35.08. Jamaica’s Sushana Johnson (10:13.58) and Ashara Frater (10:22.43) took gold and silver, respectively.
In the relay semifinals, T&T teams booked their spots in multiple finals: the under-17 girls clocked 45.93 to finish first in their semifinals; the under-17 boys, despite a dropped baton, finished fourth but still advanced; and both under-20 girls and boys relay teams also qualified for yesterday’s medal races.
T&T Under-17 4x100m girls and boys teams and the Under-20 girls captured bronze medals, while the boys under-20 team secured a silver.
In the under-20 girls’ shot put, Peyton Winter finished fifth with a throw of 12.39m, while Addalia Sylvester placed fourth in the under-17 girls’ discus, registering 33.90m
