A to­tal of eighty-six hors­es have tak­en en­try for the first day of the Ari­ma Race Club 2009 rac­ing sea­son–FCB Day at the Races on New Year's Day at San­ta Rosa Park, Ari­ma. Eight races are slat­ed to be run off on the main track and the turf course, with the two fea­ture $150,000 purse events in the First Cit­i­zens Bank First Clas­sic which, for the first time, will be run on the main track and the First Cit­i­zens Sian's Gold Sprint over 1,100 me­tres on the turf track.

Lone fe­male train­er, Sharon Fer­reira, whose first win­ner in the train­ing are­na was Di­vine Bull, goes for her first big suc­cess when Di­vine Bull, which was run­ner-up to Storm Street in the Grade One Stew­ards Cup on No­vem­ber 29, takes on six ri­vals in the 1,100-me­tre First Cit­i­zens Sian's Gold Sprint on the turf track.
