Fash­ion de­sign­er Saleem Samuel, whose bridal, evening and ready to wear cre­ations have earned him ac­claim through­out the Caribbean, re­cent­ly de­buted “Uni­ty,” a re­sort col­lec­tion that com­bines colour and cul­ture to re­flect har­mo­ny.

“I was in­spired to use vi­brant colours to cre­ate this col­lec­tion and shape it in­to easy breezy Caribbean wear us­ing ma­te­ri­als such as sheer bead­ed chif­fon, tie-dye blend­ed fab­ric and bold colours of geor­gette, cre­at­ing ex­quis­ite de­signs for women,” ex­plained Samuel who ac­ces­sorised his cre­ations with head­pieces to give a tur­ban ef­fect, ban­gles and match­ing chains.

The easy-to-wear and suit­case-friend­ly col­lec­tion in­cludes kaf­tans, high waist­ed pen­cil pants, flared skirts and long tops that can be worn as dress­es.

For men, there are strong­ly pat­terned jack­ets that are easy to in­ter­change with long or short trousers and colour block­ing tops.

‘Uni­ty’ was in­spired by the Hin­du fes­ti­val of lights, Di­vali, so the pho­to­shoot for the col­lec­tion was done at the pic­turesque Triveni Mandir in Williamsville, south Trinidad, with mod­els Narosh­ni Chan, Aneila Ma­habir and Kegan Gul­stan. Make­up was by De­bra Mc Williams Wil­son and the men’s shoes were pro­vid­ed by Shoe Fren­zy.
