Police have charged two men with the murder of 28-year-old Jimmy Thomas. They also face robbery charges.
The duo appeared virtually before Magistrate Cheron Raphael in the Sangre Grande Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Ricardo Rostant, 29, of Mc Leod Trace, Freeport and Keishon ‘Kunta’ Punter, 19, of Warden Road, Sangre Chiquito, also face additional charges for possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition.
They were charged by PC Gonzales on Sunday, following advice from Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard SC.
On May 24, 2022, Thomas was standing on the corner of Boodoo Circular and Eastern Main Road, Sangre Grande, outside a bar when he was approached by two men.
The men initially pretended to be going into the bar but then rushed at Thomas and allegedly attempted to steal his gold chain. However, a struggle ensued and Thomas was shot.
He later succumbed to his injuries at hospital.
Investigations were supervised by ASP Douglas, Legal Officer Insp Ramjag, Insp Sylvester, Insp John and Sgt Stanislaus, all of Arouca Homicide Bureau Region II.
