Five people were arrested and four pistols and a rifle were seized by
police officers during ongoing anti-crime operations across the country,
between Sunday and this morning.
In a media release, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said in the latest seizure, "an intelligence-led exercise in the Central Division conducted between 4 am and 7 am, today, resulted in the arrest of a 29-year-old Couva man for possession of one Glock 17 pistol fitted with a selector, two magazines and six rounds of ammunition."
Meanwhile, it said Task Force officers of the North Eastern Division conducted an exercise between 3 am and 6:45 am, today, with the assistance of officers of the Morvant Criminal Investigations Department and Police Station, during which they proceeded to
Angelina Terrace, where a house was searched.
Officers said the search resulted in them finding one Glock 17 pistol loaded with an extended magazine containing 25 rounds of ammunition. A quantity of marijuana was also found in a bushy area in the vicinity of the premises.
The TTPS said a 19-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the finds.
It added that in the Northern Division, Area North, officers conducted an exercise between 7 pm on Monday and 12:30 am, today, during which they proceeded to the Arima district, where they stopped a motor vehicle with a male passenger along De Gannes Street.
A search of the vehicle resulted in officers finding one Ruger pistol loaded with a magazine containing 16 rounds of ammunition.
They said an 18-year-old of Santa Rosa was arrested in connection with the find.
Meanwhile, in the North Central Division, officers conducted an exercise between 9 am and 1 pm, on Sunday during which they proceeded to the St. Augustine district, where they stopped and searched a male suspect.
The search resulted in one Taurus pistol loaded with eight rounds of ammunition being found in his possession.
The 30-year-old Aranguez man was arrested in connection with the find.
And, in the Southern Division, Area East, Task Force officers conducted an exercise between midday and 6 pm, on Sunday during which they arrested a 39-year-old New Grant man for possession of one rifle.
Investigations are ongoing into all the incidents.
