5 arrested, 5 guns seized in police exercise

Five peo­ple were ar­rest­ed and four pis­tols and a ri­fle were seized by

po­lice of­fi­cers dur­ing on­go­ing an­ti-crime op­er­a­tions across the coun­try,

be­tween Sun­day and this morn­ing.

In a me­dia re­lease, the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice (TTPS) said in the lat­est seizure, "an in­tel­li­gence-led ex­er­cise in the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion con­duct­ed be­tween 4 am and 7 am, to­day, re­sult­ed in the ar­rest of a 29-year-old Cou­va man for pos­ses­sion of one Glock 17 pis­tol fit­ted with a se­lec­tor, two mag­a­zines and six rounds of am­mu­ni­tion."

Mean­while, it said Task Force of­fi­cers of the North East­ern Di­vi­sion con­duct­ed an ex­er­cise be­tween 3 am and 6:45 am, to­day, with the as­sis­tance of of­fi­cers of the Mor­vant Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment and Po­lice Sta­tion, dur­ing which they pro­ceed­ed to

An­geli­na Ter­race, where a house was searched.

Of­fi­cers said the search re­sult­ed in them find­ing one Glock 17 pis­tol loaded with an ex­tend­ed mag­a­zine con­tain­ing 25 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion. A quan­ti­ty of mar­i­jua­na was al­so found in a bushy area in the vicin­i­ty of the premis­es.

The TTPS said a 19-year-old sus­pect was ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the finds.

It added that in the North­ern Di­vi­sion, Area North, of­fi­cers con­duct­ed an ex­er­cise be­tween 7 pm on Mon­day and 12:30 am, to­day, dur­ing which they pro­ceed­ed to the Ari­ma dis­trict, where they stopped a mo­tor ve­hi­cle with a male pas­sen­ger along De Gannes Street.

A search of the ve­hi­cle re­sult­ed in of­fi­cers find­ing one Ruger pis­tol loaded with a mag­a­zine con­tain­ing 16 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion.

They said an 18-year-old of San­ta Rosa was ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the find.

Mean­while, in the North Cen­tral Di­vi­sion, of­fi­cers con­duct­ed an ex­er­cise be­tween 9 am and 1 pm, on Sun­day dur­ing which they pro­ceed­ed to the St. Au­gus­tine dis­trict, where they stopped and searched a male sus­pect.

The search re­sult­ed in one Tau­rus pis­tol loaded with eight rounds of am­mu­ni­tion be­ing found in his pos­ses­sion.

The 30-year-old Aranguez man was ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the find.

And, in the South­ern Di­vi­sion, Area East, Task Force of­fi­cers con­duct­ed an ex­er­cise be­tween mid­day and 6 pm, on Sun­day dur­ing which they ar­rest­ed a 39-year-old New Grant man for pos­ses­sion of one ri­fle.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions are on­go­ing in­to all the in­ci­dents.
