The fu­ner­al for the late beloved for­mer St Au­gus­tine Girls’ High School (SAGHS) prin­ci­pal Dr An­na Ma­hase, will take place on Tues­day at 10 am at Ara­malaya Pres­by­ter­ian Church, Tu­na­puna. Her cre­ma­tion will fol­low at Bel­groves Fu­ner­al Home, Tacarigua.

There will be a wake ser­vice at SAGHS, Churchill-Roo­sevelt High­way, to­day at 3 pm, in mem­o­ry of Ma­hase.

Ma­hase died ear­ly on Fri­day at Med­ical As­so­ciates Hos­pi­tal, St Joseph. She was 91.

Mak­ing his­to­ry as the first woman in T&T to be ap­point­ed as a prin­ci­pal at the age of 28, Ma­hase spent three decades of her life as a high­ly re­spect­ed ed­u­ca­tor. 

She was al­so a re­cip­i­ent of sev­er­al na­tion­al awards, in­clud­ing the Medal of Mer­it (gold) in 1976 and the Cha­co­nia Medal in 1990. She was one of 50 peo­ple ho­n­oured with the Ex­cel­lence in Ed­u­ca­tion and Dis­tin­guished Pub­lic Ser­vice award on the 50th an­niver­sary of T&T’s in­de­pen­dence.
