Congress of the People interim chairman Lonsdale Williams has advised that the financial statements of the party sought by Prakash Ramadhar will be officially requested at the party’s next executive meeting, as the public spat between the two continues.
On Monday, Ramadhar, whose interim leadership position within the party is being challenged by Lonsdale Williams because it is yet to be ratified by the executive, requested the complete list of all national executive and national council members, minutes of the last 10 executive meetings, the party’s accounts identifying its income and expenditure over the last three years and a report on the party’s current active membership.
Since the request, there has been public back and forth between the two men, with Williams advising Ramadhar to make his request at the next executive meeting.
“With regard to your second letter, please note that at our next scheduled National Executive meetings, reports from the various secretaries would be requested. I am informed that persons are issuing public statements, purportedly on behalf of the party, who are neither members of the National Executive nor were they duly authorised to do so, with the intention of creating a false narrative. As you are aware, this should not to be encouraged given the grave consequences of such actions, including bringing the party into disrepute and public ridicule. In this regard, I am appealing to all members to desist from this practice. Please be guided accordingly,” Williams said.
Last week, Williams initially announced the return of Ramadhar as the new interim leader. In a subsequent media release, however, this was rescinded, as Williams said the executive had not yet met and decided on the matter.
Ramadhar publicly claimed he had been appointed interim leader after former interim leader Kirt Sinnette resigned on December 9.
No date for the next executive meeting was disclosed.
