A 29 acre piece of state land is now the proposed site for the soon to be relocated Scarborough Secondary School.
The earmarked location is situated behind the Scarborough Health Centre in Bacolet.
Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), Farley Augustine, made the disclosure recently saying the decision was made after meeting with the various interest groups.
He said, “We listened. We walked across the road behind the Scarborough Health Centre where the Tobago House of Assembly already owns a little over 29 acres of land. We have started conversations with the residents in the area and we thank the residents of that area who are a part of the conversation.”
Augustine said the change in the site was made after touring the location. “We also visited the site and with the stakeholders, who agreed that that is a better site,” he said.
Augustine, who was speaking at a THA Town Hall Meeting at the Fairfield Complex in Bacolet on June 13, said the THA Executive Council has already given the nod of approval for the construction.
“We have completed the survey works already and the executive council passed and confirmed that the site will now be Scarborough Secondary School.”
Scarborough Secondary School has long been identified to be relocated given the impact of costal erosion on the southern side of the school compound.
Lands in Bacolet belonging to Inez Investments were previously allocated by the past People’s National Movement THA executive.
However, the school’s Alumni Association and other concerned entities raised objections over the close proximity to the sea.
Inez Investments is owned by the Warner Group of Companies.
