The Mt. Hope Women’s Hospital was officially recognized and awarded Baby Friendly Accreditation on August 5. The official Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative Accreditation ceremony was held at the Colposcopy Women’s Centre on Saturday morning, with representatives from the Ministry of Health, PAHO/WHO, NCRHA Board of Directors, Executive Management and staff in attendance to celebrate the milestone achievement which was culminated with the unveiling of the official plaque presentation.
The Baby-Friendly Health Initiative (BFHI) is a World Health Organization (WHO) a project that promotes practices that facilitate positive outcomes for mothers and babies worldwide.
In June 2023, the Mount Hope Women’s Hospital successfully completed evaluation by a WHO appointed panel to assess whether the hospital met the global criteria against which international facilities are assessed and Mt. Hope Women’s Hospital received accreditation status with flying colours, having excelled in all examination categories.
Attaining Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) accreditation highlights that the Mount Hope Women’s Hospital is committed to evidence-based, best-practice maternity care; and to ensuring that mothers and new-bornsreceive timely and appropriate care during their stay at the hospital, to enable the establishment of optimal feeding of new-borns, which promotes their overall health and development.
