A 53-year-old man from El Dorado was stabbed to death outside a bar on Saturday.
Police said around 2.45 pm, Abdulah “Ben Boy” Reid, of Cecelia Street, El Dorado, was stabbed in his neck by a man during an altercation.
There were varying reports about the source of the conflict.
Initial police reports claimed that Reid entered a bar located along the Eastern Main Road near his home and had an argument with a patron.
They were allegedly forced to leave by the proprietor of the bar but continued their dispute outside.
During the confrontation, the man, who was only identified by his alias “Ras”, reportedly drew a knife and stabbed Reid in his neck before running away.
However, an eyewitness, who captured the exchange with a cell phone camera and posted it on social media, claimed that Reid was liming outside the bar, intervened in a fight between two other patrons, trying to make peace and was stabbed in the process.
Reid managed to stumble across the road before collapsing on the pavement.
He was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope by a passer-by in a pick-up truck. The passer-by received a police escort after he alerted police officers, who were on patrol along the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway in Macoya.
Reid was pronounced dead when he arrived at the hospital.
Crime scene investigators visited the scene of the stabbing where they gathered evidence.
The suspect in Reid’s murder was not apprehended up to late yesterday.
An autopsy will be performed on Reid’s body at the Forensic Science Centre in St James once he is officially identified by relatives later this week.
