Ris­ing COVID-19 hos­pi­tal­i­sa­tions have prompt­ed the Min­istry of Health to re­ac­ti­vate two step-down fa­cil­i­ties in the par­al­lel health­care sys­tem.

The Min­istry of Health is mon­i­tor­ing an out­break of Langya heni­pavirus (LayV) which has in­fect­ed 35 peo­ple. This was con­firmed by Chief Med­ical Of­fi­cer Dr Roshan Paras­ram on Wednes­day, at the min­istry’s vir­tu­al press brief­ing.

Two more peo­ple have lost their lives to COVID-19, ac­cord­ing to the lat­est ad­vi­so­ry from the Min­istry of Health.  These lat­est deaths have pushed up the na­tion­al death toll to 4,053 lives lost.

The Of­fice of the Prime Min­is­ter has con­firmed that Prime Min­is­ter Dr Kei­th Row­ley has con­tract­ed COVID-19 again, but it ap­pears that be­ing vac­ci­nat­ed is work­ing in his favour.

There was on­ly one new death—a ful­ly vac­ci­nat­ed per­son—from COVID-19 in To­ba­go, dur­ing the pe­ri­od 17-23 Ju­ly 2022, ac­cord­ing to the sec­ond week­ly up­date from the Di­vi­sion of Health, Well­ness and So­cial Pro­tec­tion, in the To­ba­go House of As­sem­bly (THA).  To­ba­go’s death toll is now 273, as at Sat­ur­day 23 Ju­ly 2022.
