Tobago records 82 COVID-19 cases in schools, 2 MIS-C cases

To­ba­go has record­ed 82 COVID-19 cas­es emerg­ing among stu­dents and staff on the is­land since the re­turn to phys­i­cal class­es on April 19. The up­date came dur­ing a joint press con­fer­ence in­volv­ing the Di­vi­sion of Ed­u­ca­tion, Re­search and Tech­nol­o­gy (DERT) and the Di­vi­sion of Health, Well­ness and So­cial Pro­tec­tion (DHWSP).

BERLIN (AP) — The COVID-19 pan­dem­ic is “most cer­tain­ly not over,” the head of the World Health Or­ga­ni­za­tion warned Sun­day, de­spite a de­cline in re­port­ed cas­es since the peak of the omi­cron wave. He told gov­ern­ments that “we low­er our guard at our per­il.”

The Min­istry of Health has record­ed 1 ad­di­tion­al COVID re­lat­ed death. This brings the to­tal num­ber of deaths to 3,871. There are cur­rent­ly 209 pa­tients in the hos­pi­tal. The min­istry has al­so record­ed 504 new COVID cas­es in the last 24 hours, bring­ing the to­tal num­ber of ac­tive cas­es to 9,418.

An un­vac­ci­nat­ed per­son is the most re­cent vic­tim of COVID-19 in To­ba­go, and theirs is the first record­ed death from the dis­ease in 11 days.  The is­land’s death toll from COVID-19 now stands at 267.
